I do LOTS of text formatting and am dependent on the SHOW HIDDEN CHARACTERS for formatting.  SUDDENLY, the SYMBOLS of "show hidden characters" have changed!!  For example, the spaces between words show as the paragraph symbol (backwards P).  Returns show as French ç ??????  Perhaps I should throw out the InDesign prefs and see what happens.

THANKS in advance!

Weird. Try resetting your ID prefs, as you have a hunch to try. https://creativepro.com/rebuilding-indesign-preferences/

Happening with all your docs, or just one? If just one, Save As to .idml and re-open.

BINGO!  Throwing out the USER INDESIGN PREFS fixed it!!!  I THANK YOU, Diane, for your input.  Be safe and take care!

Glad that worked. It's a standard go-to for those "weird" (to use the technical term 😊) problems.
