"Unable to Display a PDF Image on the Page"

I am working on a 24-page document in InDesign with linked images on each page to respective Illustrator documents. Last week, everything worked fine. This week, some of the links are unable to refresh/update, giving me the error message in the thread title. I have read the issue could be the file size of the linked images (though in that case, why would they have worked last week and not this week? The file size didn't change overnight). I have resampled one of them, bringing the file size from 60 MB to 8 MB, yet I still receive the same error. I have tried downloading an older version of InDesign, but the same problem occurred. "PDF Compatible file" is checked on all Illustrator files. I am rapidly running out of ideas. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

I have actually fixed the problem! Several of the linked images ended with the extension ".jpg" and needed to be converted to ".jpeg" - I have no clue why they worked last week and stopped working this week, however.

One has to wonder why you would be saving Illustrator files as .jpegs to begin with rather than .ai or PDF...

I wasn't. The jpegs in the .ai file needed to be edited. One has to wonder why you're taking shots at people asking for help...

Not taking a shot at you.

We do get a lot of new users who don't understand raster vs. vector formats and make poor choices. It wasn't clear from your post that the .jpeg files were inside the .ai files.

I actually find it curious that this happened to you. To my understanding PDF internalizes the included images.
