Recovering unsaved changes in indesign

I have very foolishly not saved changes to an indesign file before shutting it down. I understand that changes are autosaved, but I cannot find a cache on my mac relating to Indesign. Is my work lost or am I just looking in the wrong place?

The "autosave" data is only used for file recovery in the event of a crash of some sort. It is not user accessible.

Yes - I understand that now - was clutching at straws really!

Hi @lynneb88209176 ,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. If you have not manually saved your changes to an InDesign file and you're unable to find a cache or temporary file related to InDesign, there is a possibility that your work might be lost. However, there are a few things you can try to recover your unsaved changes:

  1. Recent files: Open InDesign and check the "File" menu for a "Recent Files" section. It might display a list of recently opened files, including the one you worked on.
  2. Document recovery: When you launch InDesign after a crash or improper shutdown, it usually detects any unsaved changes and prompts you with a recovery dialog. However, this feature might not work if you close the program intentionally without saving. Still, it's worth relaunching InDesign to see if it offers any recovery options.
  3. You can also check this article for more information.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Thanks

Rishabh

Thanks,

All is lost I think. Am starting to replace the work. I hope it will be a better version! A stupid mistake and a hard lesson to learn!

Unfortunately.

You need to develop a habit of hitting Ctrl+S more often - how often depends on how much changes you have done.

Also, remember to at least once a day - at least at the end of the day - doing Save As with a new name - to clean your file a bit.

Every time you hit Ctrl+S, InDesign is adding undo history to the file - but you can't "access" it after you close your file - so it's there, making your file bigger and slower.
