Reference custom number list in Master Page

Hello,

I'm creating a report through a book -structure with multiple chapters and additional appendices as such:

1. First chapter
1.1 ----
1.2 ----
2. Second chapter
2.1 ----
2.2 ----
2.3 ----
3. Final chapter
Appendix A: A dataset
Appendix B: Another dataset
Appendix C: More datasets

The appendices can be quite lengthy, so on the Master page I want to create a footer referencing the Master page. E.g.

My massive report - Appendix A: A dataset

I have been able to call "A dataset" in my master through text variables, but what I am unable to pull off is inserting the 'Appendix #' part for whatever appendix it is on. Can anybody tell me how I can obtain the paragraph number for a running header (text variable) or should I use some different way to let the footer follow the appendix numbering?

Your help is appreciated

I don't think it's possible from memory that you can include the Automatic Numbering as a running header.

It would require a workaround - from what I remember.

There things like PowerHeaders plug ins and other things that might work. http://in-tools.com/products/plugins/power-headers/#:~:text=Localized%20Formatting%3A%20Power%20Headers%20gives,by%20InDesign's%20standard%20text%20composer.

Thanks for your answer. Am I correct in assuming that it's also not possible to, for example, include "Chapter 2.1: chapter title" in a master template, updating to whatever X.Y chapter it is currently on in native InDesign?

As far as I am aware - you can include running headers and select Chapter Number

I'm not entirely clear on what you're asking - can you please provide any more information with screenshots or better understanding.

Maybe I do not understand your issues
