Removing background

Hi, I receiently received Indisign Suite 2020 for Christmas, after my InDesign Suite 3 stopped working.  I have been out of the loop for about 3 years. I can't remember how to delete the background of a Transparent clip art.  I tried putting it first into Photoshop and working with layers, but that doesn't seem to work.  Dropping directly into InDesign, the gray/white squares continue to show in background even tho it's labeled a Transparent?

"the gray/white squares continue to show in background"

That seems to indicate that your file does not truly have a transparent background. If it did, the grey/white checkerboard would not ever show in a placed file.

What format is your image? (jpg, psd, eps, etc.?)

When you place the graphic in InDesign (Command+D), be sure to click the box for Show Import Options. Then when the Place option box opens, click the Options box for Transparent Background and also chose Crop to Art.

So it has a transparent background in Photoshop? In InDesign, choose View > Display Performance > High Quality Display to force InDesign to render the graphics in high res. That should do it.
