Renumbering Footnotes

Is there a way to have full control over footnote numbering? We have clients that restart footnotes between major sections, but not minor sections. Leaving the "Restart footnote every ___" checkbox unchecked, if a story ends and a new story starts, the footnote still restarts at "1". I thought leaving that unchecked would have it continually increment across the entire document, but it doesn't. It seems the only way I could get it to continually increment is to have all stories threaded together as if there is just one story.

Anyone else have issues with this and a fix?

FEATURE REQUEST: It would be nice to have a feature where you can pick a particular footnote or page and tell it to start the footnotes at a particular number. Thanks.

No.

The "fix" indeed is to have one long story, Restart per Section, and manually indicate each section.

Footnote updates are long overdue. Requests go here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/search?filter=ideas&page=1&query=footnote

-- there are about 100 related requests so before you add this as a new one (thus appropriately "Restarting at 1") better find if it's already asked so you can add your vote.

Note - many of our documents are hundreds of pages long, with large financial tables in the threads. So it is much easier for us to end threads at specific points (example: if there are 20 notes in a financial document, after each note) so that if the client adds more text to a note, it does't reflow all notes which typically have varying widths of tables, often spaning multiple columns... which can cause a real mess when reflowed to text frames not setup to accommodate the larger tables. So if we could control the actual number of individual footnotes, or have them continue incrementing across multiple stories, that would help a lot!
