When I need to make a "repeating grid" in InDesign I do the following

1) Use the rectangle frame tool (F)

2) Without releasing my mouse, I click on the up, down, and side arrows on my keyboard

                - For example: --> will add a box to the right.

                - You can add as many box vertically or horizontally as you would like

3) You can stretch the boxes to the desired size of your frame before or after you have put the # of boxes you want (something I wish XD     would do)

4) Release the mouse

**Notice that the boxes do not have X's when you are adding more and doing the resizing. If you have an X on your box and you can't add more boxes or resize, you released your mouse**

Original box

Adding more boxes to the right

Stretching boxes out to the right

Stretching the boxes down

Final Result - Ready to drop in your images

I hope that is helpful. I found that trick a couple years ago from a Youtuber.

Best,

Grace

Hi,

Honestly we have much more level of control and power in application like InDesign.

While not really the same we do have possibility to achieve the same operation results in InDesign.

Use features like Group, lock, and duplicate objects in InDesign (alt key while dragging a group, step and repeat) along with object styles in InDesign to have similar functionality.

Let me know if this helps...
