Resize large images from within InDesign

Hi

I am importing multiple images into InDesign that are large in file size. Some are scaled to 20% with an effective ppi of 1600ppi. Years ago Quark had a script that would export all that photos to a chosen ppi and scale the picture so that you can re-import the resized version of the image @100% with that chosen ppi. Does anyone know of a similar script or workaround for InDesign?

      Thank you Danny, i'll have to check that out, think that's exactly what i'm looking for.

      And thanks Rob, wasn't really aware of the link preview proxy thing, so that is good to know!

      For resolution to affect the file size and performance of an ID document you would have to be embedding the links. Here an ID page with a 1300ppi linked image is 2MB. With the image embedded the files size is 265MB

      Resize images - new version

      I'm looking for a way though to have a more manageable and cleaner InDesign document before any pdfing as I do not need to create a pdf. The long way to do it is to resize the images in Photoshop, looking for a quicker solution as InDesign has already done the hard work /  scaling for me. The quark script I talk of would create a folder with the resized images within. Thanks for your help though.

        If all of the placed images are linked, lowering the resolution of the linked images wouldn’t have an impact on performance because the link preview proxy will not change in any meaningful way. With storage running less than 20 cents a GB the saved disk space would be penny wise. I guess if you are forced to deliver an ID package via a very slow internet connection it might start to make sense.

        You can down sample the effective res during PDF export. The Compression tab lets you choose a threshold and target output res. The default for most presets is 450 and 300.
