After a frustrating day trying to use InDesign, I just got it. Is that how I work? Is that my computer? Is it useless? Do other people find it frustrating? It took ages to load then kept crashing in the blink of an eye. The menu bar is often unresponsive. I don't seem to have any problems with Photoshop or Illustrator.

Are there other programs suitable for book layout and design?

InDesign is the industry standard publishing applcation, i.e. it is not useless!

We need more information:

Which version of InDesign and OS?
How much RAM and spare hard disk capacity do you have?

Do you have any third-party apps, such as a font manager installed?

Are there any error messages?

Have you tried resetting InDesign back to the factory defaults?
