Restarting numbering on each page / section

I'm making figure numbers and I'm wondering if there is a way to have separated text box captions restart their numbering on each page or in a new chapter.

Thanks!

My hope is that I could reset the numbering at the start of a section that could be defined by a paragraph style or a master page.

The solution lies in your "01-GENERAL" header.

Set the paragraph style applied to this header as a numbered list. Make sure it's set as level 1.

Now, set your figures paragraph styles as a numbered list too. Make sure it uses the same List*, and that it is set as level 2.

Set this list to restart after any preceding level.

Be careful: The numbered lists follow the order

Hi travish,

It depends how you have your "text Frames".

If yo don't need to have all the frames following a unique text flow you can set up your list reset in each story.

The first two text frame are independent, so the list restarts in each of them. On the other hand the text frames below are linked so the list doesn't restart.

To achieve that yo need to uncheck the option "continue number across to stories" in the list's options

Thanks for the reply.  I understand how that would work if you were confining all figures into one story or text box. But I'm trying to free up the text boxes in order to allow flexibility of placement on the page.  My hope is that I could reset the numbering at the start of a section that could be defined by a paragraph style or a master page.

Be careful: The numbered lists follow the order of creation of the objects, not their position on page nor their stacking. So make sure you create your frame containing the header before the ones containing the figures.

* List must be continuous across stories.
