.RPLN issues with CS5.5 Indesign

New Here ,
Jul 16, 2019 Jul 16, 2019

I recently re downloaded  my Creative Suite 5.5 to make a small change to an indesign file.  However whenever I try to open the file, it gives me the "Cannot open file" and then a bunch of issues with .RPLN on the end... It's asking me to upgrade to the plug-ins to latest version but I all I need to do is make a couple text edits.  The only plugs ins I have are the ones that were downloaded when I installed the creative suite.  Is there a quick fix or will I need to purchase an newer version?  Will anew version be able to open the file?

Any newer version of InDesign will be able to open a CS5.5 file. Also, be aware that CS5.5 is not supported for any Mac OS after Yosemite (10.10) or for Windows 10. If you have upgraded to a newer operating system since the last time you used CS5.5 then that is probably what is causing your problem.

To come back to your original question, the file was probably made with a new version. I say this because the messages you usually get are about plug-ins. No version of InDesign will open files from the future (from newer versions).

InDesign is now subscription only.

Hi Dylan,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. In addition to the questions asked above, I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  • Is the issue related to a specific document?
  • Where this file was created? Was it created on your system or you got it from a friend/ colleague?

You can also check out this help article for more details about this error: https://indesignsecrets.com/solution-for-packaging-files-with-missing-plug-ins.php

Looking forward to your response!

Regards,

Srishti

You could download the free trial version of InDesign CC2019 – it works for seven days – to make your corrections  (hopefully!)

Is CS5.5 fully updated? IIRC, the final update to CS5.5 added the alert that the file was created with a later version of InDesign.
