I have a document with 132 pages which makes 67 spreads. How can I make it possible to search for ie page 105 if the document only says 67 pages? Can this be changed, and if so, how? /Emelie

MVH Emelie

You should set up your document as facing pages and you would automatically be given spreads.

Pages and spreads in InDesign

If you have setup your file with 67 pages - then you are setup incorrectly.

If I'm understanding the problem correctly (the translation is a little rough) you want to be able to navigate to specific pages in the document but the document is in spreads that sound like each spread has been placed on a single page. That is the problem. You should have the document set up with each spread being two separate pages butted together. See screen shot:

Once you have it set up like this you will be able to navigate easily to specific pages.

Hi Emelie:

Can this be changed, and if so, how?

I'm reading this the same way as Bill. It sounds like you set up a landscape document and divided each page in half, instead of setting it up the way he recommends—as two correctly sized facing pages. Does your document look something like this (I'm using color blocks to represent the text/graphic elements, and you can click the image to zoom in):

Next time, set up a new file the way Bill has described. But to address your question about fixing it:

  1. Save the file under a new name.
  2. File > Document Setup: double the number of pages, cut the paper size in half and change the orientation to portrait.

  3. On the master pages, remove the 2 columns:

  4. And now the hard part. You will need to drag all the page elements on the their proper pages. Start at the bottom. So for me, I'd drag the red block to the last page. The green block to the page above, etc.

  5. Everything is now on the correct pages.

  6. Finally, turn on Facing pages back in File > Document Setup.

Check your Pages panel and confirm what you see at the bottom. How many pages and how many spreads?

Emelie: We can help. Why don't you show us screen shots that illustrate the issue—we are just guessing based on your short description.
