my letters that are separated as objects are not layering properly. I have tried setting them on separate layers and in the same one using send to back and send to front, but i can only get the second set of letters to go on top of the first if they are set to be filled as black. when i set them to a yellow color i cannot get them to come to the front. The text wrap is off i have checked , and like i said adding a new layer on top and putting them there wont work. they are copied and pasted from another document but ive never had issues like this before

Hi @Rory32303716b50u ,
if you want to change the stacking order of individual elements on the page, just open the Layers panel that presents all objects on a spread and move the selected object up or down.

Hi @Robert at ID-Tasker ,
I was under the impression that sending back and sending to front was done with the menu commands.
Sending back and forth will only work in the scope of a single layer. Maybe that's the issue?
Hm. Or the selected objects are anchored perhaps. Yes, this could be if the text was partially converted to outlines inside a text frame. Then sending back / forth can do nothing at all. The menu commands will be grayed-out. Just like in this situation:
We need at least a screenshot of the situation to help.
Invisible characters showing, frame edges showing and also the opened Layers panel where we can see all the objects on the spread. Like in my screenshot above.

And yes, screenshots with all the edges visible would be helpful - but sample document would be even better.
