Setting Column RULES

Explorer ,
Nov 05, 2019 Nov 05, 2019

The new column rule function is a great addition. However, does the column rule only work with one text frame with multiple columns applied? I like to work with several text frames and cannot see how this will work in this instance. Would have been good if the column rules could be applied especially if all text boxes are linked.

Hello, the new column rule work with a text frame devided not between text frame. You need to use the Text frame option and use nomber, size ... in the panel.

If a text frame is devided it works, but not if there are multiple text frame linked.

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah that's what I thought! I've tried the new column rule function and it works fine. It will come in handy in certain situations and design jobs. I have a tendency to work in multiple text frames. If the text frames are linked then a script can be written to recognise the link and include the function.

Here's hoping maybe in the next update 🙂

While we are here can I pick your brain on another subject?

I have recently bought and installed a new Wacom Pro updated all the function keys and pen keys to include Photoshop2019  and Illustrator. However, now that I installed the latest Photoshop there seem to be compatibility issues.

Any idea why this might be happening!

Thanks

Colette

Yes, i hope !! 😉

For the wacom i think it's the drivers. Check update, but the new release should arrive soon to be full compatible with Catlina en 2020 adobe apps.

A lot of things were recoded in Photoshop 2020. I will test this week-end on my Intuos pro and give you feedback.

Brilliant! Thanks for your reply.

I will await the new driver and hopefully, that might iron out the issues. Let me know how you get on!

Hi Colette,

you could work with an object style where column rules are defined and turned on.

Then apply the object style to all threaded text frames of a story.

Text frame rules are also working with threaded text frames:

Hi Colette,

if you are working with an object style for text frames that has column rules implemented you could define that obejct style as the default one for text frames. At least as long as you want. So every time you drag out a new text frame this object style will be applied. Also if you add a threaded text frame to an existing one.

From my German InDesign on Windows 10:
