Share InDesign documents for review

Dear reader or support assistant,
 
My name is Remco and I work as a crossmedia designer for Dock35, a company that produces digital and paper magazines with the ease and pleasure of Adobe products.
 
Last summer we encountered a problem working with the [Share InDesign documents for review] feature. After transferring Indesign documents between colleagues for holidays, it turned out that this function does not work when InDesign documents are processed on other devices. Not even within our license.
 
Indesign claims (attachment transcribed from Dutch):
    No access for review. You cannot create or update a review share since you a not the owner of the review. Please save this as a new document to create your own review.
 
Easy to write, but we do not want to bother our customers (stakeholders) by sending them new URLs for all their review links. In addition, duplications of InDesign documents can cause production problems if wrong versions are processed.
 
I consulted https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/share-for-review.html about this matter, but didn't find the clarification either.
 
Is there a way to hand over the review ownership, so we can stay with the original documents and its review urls?

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your issue. We understand how critical it is to maintain review links and ensure a smooth workflow for your projects.

Currently, the Share for Review feature in InDesign does not allow transferring ownership of review links when a document is opened or edited on a different account or device. Review links are directly tied to the Adobe ID and device of the user who originally created them.

I understand how important this functionality is to you, and I apologize for its unavailability at this time. To help us prioritize this feature, would you consider submitting your feedback on UserVoice? This platform allows users to request and vote on features, and you'll be notified of any updates regarding your suggestion.

In the meantime, here are some workarounds:

  1. Collaborative Workflow with a Single Owner
    Assign one team member to be the primary owner of the document and review links. They can manage updates and sharing, avoiding disruptions to existing review links.

  2. Use a Shared Cloud Workflow
    Save the document in Creative Cloud Files or another shared platform. This allows collaboration without breaking review links, as ownership remains with the original creator.

We’ve also passed your feedback to the product team, as this enhancement could greatly improve team workflows.

Good day Abhishek,

 

Thank you very much for your clear explanation and optional solutions. I consulted and discussed this with my co-designers.

 

Our production is stored on privat servers and the company executive and administrator do not intend to take advantage of the Creative Cloud solution so far.

 

We also have considered assigning a primary owner. The objection to this is that our division of labor is largely decentralized. Shortly, one does produce remotely without using each other's workstation.

 

Anyway, last week I raised this matter at UserVoice and I count on sufficient support to challenge Adobe to remedy this limitation seriously.
