Shift Key Selection Issue in InDesign: Unable to Select Separate Words

Hello,

Suddenly, my shift key forces a selection of all words from the first selection to my next desired selection instead of allowing the selection of two separate words. So I want to select two distanced words in a paragraph for example... I would press shift to select both. Now, all text in between is selected with the shift key. I have no idea how to change this and it's getting really inconvenient. Thank you.

Suddenly? To my knowledge, InDesign always behaved the way you described with the shift key.

The only major program I know that does that is Microsoft Word, but it uses the Control key (on Windows).

InDesign does not allow having two or more selections of words or characters at the same time. Only a single selection can be made.

Hi @katem5309929,

I understand how frustrating this must be!  It sounds like a selection issue. Could you please share which version of InDesign you’re using and your operating system? Also, is this happening in just one specific file or all your files? If possible, a screen recording demonstrating the issue would really help us pinpoint the issue.

We're here to assist you!

Thanks,
