Sizing and Aligning Images to Margins

When I imported my manuscript into InDesign, the image styles were lost. Some images span the width of an entire page, while others are partly off the page (and invisible).

I don't want to assign a specific image size, because figuring out what size that should be and aligning it is too tedious. Is there a way to simply make an image stretch from one margin to the other, at the same time properly aligning it with the margins?

Create a new named Object Style in the Object Styles window, using [Basic Graphcs Frame] as the source.

Apply this new style to an example of your image frame. Apply all relevant styles and settings to this frame, then right-click on your object style name and click "Redefine Style." Repeat this update every time you tweak the style until it's doing exactly what you want when appled to the other graphics frames.

With it applied to all your images, any further changes will be applied to all of them.

It can be done witn object styles.  Use them.

You could try creating an Object style with the size/position you want and turn on Auto Fit, then use Find/Change to find graphic frames and apply Object Style.

OK, I did this ...

Object > Anchored Object > Insert > Basic Graphics Frame

If I understand correctly, the next step is to 1) make the graphics frame a particular width, then 2) style it "autofit" so any image I paste inside it will have the same size as the frame. Is that right?

The big problem is when I choose Window > Styles > Object Styles, nothing happens. Is there another way to open Object Styles?

You have to create an Object Style with the settings you want.

Unfortunately, there is no tool built-in into InDesign to automatically resize images - or any other object - the way you want.
