Skipping pages when automatic numbering

Can you please add add a function to skip pages when auto numbering? When working on a large file with tabs, it's very time consuming and easy to make errors when you have to start a new section after each tab in order to keep the numbers consecutive. I would love to be able to just click on the tab pages to skip numbering.

Thank you.

@judy n

You don't have to use automatic page numbering - you can use Bullets and Numbering.

Never thought of that. How would I set that up on the master pages?

Use the TF that you are using now for the Auto Page Numbering - then you need to load a Text file with "blank" paragraphs.

Or hit "enter" a few times to add more empty paragraphs.

I agree with you: that might be a nice feature add-on.

Your tab pages could be based on their own parent page which would not have a "Current Page Number" marker. But you will have to visit Numbering and Section Options to adjust the page numbering reset to seemingly ignore the tab page (presumably a front and back) by decrementing by 2. InDesign does not have the ability to ignore pages from numbering unless you do this manual adjustment. BTW, do the Tabs pages have to be built into the InDesign document? Could they be a separate document?

That's how I currently set up my files--with new sections after each tab. I wish we could just ignore those pages. For me, it's much more efficient to have the tabs built into the document. I also use the tab text as a running header for the pages that follow. All I have to do is remove the backs of tabs before going to print and tell the copier to pull those pages from a different drawer.
