Hi hoping someone can help me with the issues im having with my new MacBook pro m2 max 15" 64gb ram.
I do a lot of work in Indesign creating documents and factsheets etc. I tend to move around a lot with my macbook and the issue i am having is when i close the screen and the mac goes into esentially sleep mode, when i open and log back into my mac indesign still has my documents open but the screen is grey on every file, meaning i have to close down and reopen the programme.
I played around with some settings in InDesign turning on and off the GPU performance but nothing seems to help.
If anyone has any theories or ideas on how to fix this would appreciate the help.
My mac is updated to the latest os.

Hi Bob, thanks for your question. It's updated to OS Sonoma 14.3.1 but the issue has been there since i got the machine mid - late 2023 from my workplace. It's had two OS updates since iv had it.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about Sonoma to really help out but are there any O/S level settings you can play around with?

Try to update to the latest macOS 14.4.x (although I'd be surprised if it makes a difference in this case). Also, what's your InDesign version?

A bit of a side comment, but as someone who has never come to love laptops on any level, I have never had a system that reliably managed sleep/hibernate features. I long ago learned to close, if not apps, at least docs before closing the lid.
Yes, yes, I realize this is an antiquated viewpoint and kids today open and shut their laptops all day long... but I'll take the extra step, every time, just to avoid damaged and lost docs and the need to hard-reboot to unlock a broken app. I defy anyone to say there's a time or productivity issue/advantage either way, and I prefer not to have to recover or fix work in the name of some imagined convenience.

Hi!
I have the same issue with Indesign (2024, version 19.2). I work on a Mac Studio/M1 Max + Studio Display and macOS Monterey (version 12.7.3). Turn of the GPU helps temporarily, but since I ticked the box ”prevent automatic transition to sleep when the screen is off” (sorry, I dont’t know the correct frase in english) in the computer settings (power save) the problem with blank or grey screen in Indesign after sleep seems to be solved – so far. ; )

I encounter the same issue. The problem occurs when the system wakes up after sleep or when the monitor is tuned off and on. When awake or switching on the monitor the InDesign document window drops halfway the screen. When I double click on the document window upper bar to bring it back to the original position, the page area and paste board area sometimes even turns into a solid color, sometimes magenta, sometimes light grey, sometimes … The page layout is not visible. I have to save, close and reopen the document to get the normal view. 🙄
As an end user I cannot determine if these graphical problems are caused by macOS or app programming by Adobe. The dropping issue of the InDesign document window is present since M1 and I guess it’s hard for Apple or Adobe to fix that. The window dropping issue was also present in Illustrator and Photoshop. But I've read in some threads that this issue has been solved. Illustrator and Photoshop work fine on my system.
