On an 8 year old computer, you could be running into an incompatible graphics card. Try turning off GPU Performance in InDesign. Preferences > GPU Performance.

Hi Chad

Thanks for your reply, I thought this in the beginning but I have another computer on the next desk with exactly the same specs and same version of MacOS and indesign but it doesn't have this problem.

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble you are facing. As I can see in your screen recording, InDesign is lagging while moving an empty page; that's weird. Could you please share a few more details like:

  • Does this happen while working on a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Are you using the TimeMachine on this Mac device? If yes, disable it and see if that improves the performance.
  • Does resetting InDesign Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/user-guide.html/in/indesign/using/setting-preferences.ug.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

As you have mentioned with a similar spec Mac, you are not facing this issue. I would suggest you try booting the system into Safe Mode (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/start-safe-boot-mode-mac.html) and check how it works there. It starts your system to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
