SmartStream designer for InDesign cs3

Hello,

Does anyone have a link to the SmartStream for Indesign cs3 plugin?
My company only has the cs3 suite and the plugin would be a great service to us!
I searched everywhere, I even sent a message to HP but no response. I can only find the recent version.

Well... I probably can't tell you anything you don't know about running really obsolete software on an obsolete OS. 🙂

Have you looked for the discs that came with the printers?

Have you tried installing the current version, even though it's for Windows 10?

Maybe someone here or elsewhere has a 20-year-old utility in their archives, but I'd bet you're out of luck and out of time with that app.

Indeed I tried to install the latest version and InDesign cs3 refuses the plugin on startup. I installed InDesign CS3 on Windows 10 and the software works perfectly. That's what I'm thinking, if anyone has an archive and can send it to me that would be nice 🙂

I don't recall a plugin, specifically — do you mean a print control interface, more advanced than ID's regular printer? That wouldn't necessarily be ID-specific. Give your post here a little time — keep checking back for a few days — but you might have better luck asking in HP user forums or the like for someone who's archived all the drivers and utilities back to daisywheel printers. They're out there. 🙂

From what I found, the versions of SmartStream historically are very closely matched to the version of CS that they supported... e.g. v5 worked with CS5 and CS5.5 only, v4 worked with CS4 only, and the best I found for CS3 is v2.5. Even so, you would require purchasing the appropriate licensing from HP to run it anyway. So I'm not surprised that HP isn't answering you as I doubt they would support a version that old anymore. Plus, despite the fact you were able to Install CS3 on Windows 10 (how you did that without the long-dead activation servers is suspect), there's no guarantee an older version of SmartStream would run even if you could find it. If HP isn't offering it to you, there's no legal way anyone else would be offering it.

Obviously my ass/u/mption that it was some kind of printer manager was wrong. But on looking further, say, into the PDF user manuals, I find it's wrapped in so many layers of HPmarketingSpeek that I am still not sure what the heck it's for:

Um, yeah. I knew that. Right. (And the manual goes on for page after page of this "could be sushi, could be a Mars rocket, could be a portable fusion reactor" sweeping generalities.)

So I don't feel so bad. 🙂

You are in luck! We have the installer for SSD CS3 still with us! CS3 is still working with us for Windows 10 x64 22H2.
