Question

Some EPS files or parts are pixelated or distorted after export through Indesign

Hello! Please help. We are making a book with my colleague that includes over 200 charts and graphs and illustrations. We made them and saved in the default setting of EPS in Illustrator. And it all looked fine both in indesign and Illustrator. We tried to export to High quality PFD to print. And some of the illustrations are distorted like pixelated or just their parts. there is no "rule" to it. Our only idea is we will have to save them all one by one to EPS with High quality transparency setting. But is there any other way, or way to change the resolution in batch.. or export differently, and solve the issue? Thnk you so much! We´re in a time pressure.  I´m putting the examples. We used the default "Save as" setting in the EPS. Vero

I´m putting the examples.

Can you share a few of the problem EPS files (not  the .pngs you posted). If they are all vector you shouldn’t be getting the pixelization even with an eps.

I can't be sure but it looks like some of them might have placed raster images.

EPS doesn't support transparency.

Looks like some elements are being rastered, and Illustrator's Document Raster Effects Settings is Low 72ppi.

Hopefully your EPS will include the unflattened ai data so will open up in Illy looking ok.

Save them out as .ai (with PDF compatibility) and all should be ok.

Re consistent position, If you make your Artboard in Illy a consistent size you should be able to select that when you place into InDesign.

Never use EPS! Use AI or PDF/X-4. EPS causes many problems as it does not support transparency nor color management. Replace your EPS with the AI originals.

Well, if you had come here BEFORE you started this project we would have told you to avoid EPS. It's an archaic, and sometimes troublesome, format.

Instead, at this point, any files giving your problems should be replaced with AI files.

Oh I see 😞 We´ve used eps because it had the option to use the "canvas" size. So it keeps the size better it seems., but it is possible, there is some setting that makes the file retain the exact size of the canvas in Illustrator.

I'm not sure what you're referring to but there is absolutely nothing EPS can do for you that an AI/PDF can't. When placing the file choose to show options and you can crop it to the artwork.
