Question

Style Sheet Fonts Are Not Displaying Properly in InDesign Document.

I have been designing a particular document using InDesign for some time. Up until now, everything worked well. But, now, suddenly, the fonts specified in my style sheets will not display for new text where I apply those style sheets. Type in the document that was already assigned to specific style sheets remain correct and unaffected. The specs within each style sheet, as listed in the style sheet's option box (font, type size, color, etc.) also remain correct as originally set.

But, when I import new text into the document (or copy and paste it from another program), then assign an existing style to that text, it changes to an incorrect font. I have tried quitting and restarting InDesign; shutting down and restarting my computer, but the problem persists.

What can be done to resolve this issue?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this. As per your query, there is a text in your file with Character style already applied to it. Now when you are adding new text to the document, Character Style is not applied to the text. If so, would you mind sharing a sample file with a small piece of text (which is not confidential) with Character Style applied to it? If not, please upload it to Creative Cloud/ Google Drive/ Dropbox and share the direct download link.

Regards,

Srishti

Useless advice. I'm having the same problem with a newsletter that I have doing for years now. Suddenly my style sheets are gone. WTF? I have tried loading style sheets from the last newsletter...NO JOY! I can recreate them, I suppose, but this is a major flaw that I pay monthly for!

Now I am even more upset! The styles are there, but they do not even match to the attributes listed in the style menu. Everything defauts to Times 10 point. This is the latest ID update. Mac, Monterey 12.1. ID 17.0.1. Any help would be appreciated.

When nothing is selected which Character Style is set as default? It should be none.

What version of InDesign?

And try holding down the Alt key (Windows) or the Opt key (Mac) as you assign the styles. Does that make it work as expected? If yes, I'll come back and give you more information on what is going on.
