Suddenly won't package - Error message claiming in 'cannot create package folders'

Community Beginner ,

I have been using Indesign for years and packaging my projects when complete.

Today when I was updating a previous document, I've resaved it and tried to package - it comes up with the message: Indesign cannot package the document XXX. Cannot create package folders."

I'm saving onto my laptop device, in a different folder but essentially as I usually do (nowhere different). Can anyone help? I haven't changed any settings as far as I'm aware, and I have the latest update (I have subscription to adobe cloud).

It's the latest version/update on the cloud. 19.4 (updated in April) and I use Microsoft Windows 11 - again all updates have been checked and applied.

Roll back to 19.3 and try again.

Maybe you don't have full writing rights to the folder?

I don't think so. It's my computer and no one else uses it. I reckon it must be some glitch that they need to fix.

I've just rolled back and then re-updated it to the latest version. It will now package some docs but not all - I've even tried using the same folder name in a different destination, for those it doesn't work for. Seems to be no consistency in why it works for some and not others. The documents themselves are very similar in content too, so doesn't make sense.

Can you show us some screenshots with source and destination paths?

Maybe you have some "strange" symbols / letters in the paths.

Or in the names of linked assets - and the error means that the asset can't be copied to the destination folder.

Or linked assets / files - are corrupted and can't be copied?

1st step - try to manually create destination folder that InDesign can't.

2nd step - try to manually copy linked assets / files to the same destination that InDesign can't.

Not clear if changing the path with the same folder name worked, but this REALLY sounds like a permission issue on the path that fails.

Permission or not allowed characters in the paths or file names.

Or corrupted files that can't be copied?

And the error could be misleading?

@K37463023b3xd

Is the destination folder created and some files copied there?

@K37463023b3xd

Do you have any non ASCII characters in the name of the INDD file - or anywhere in the path? Including your logged in user account?

Screenshot of the error message would help.

Hi, no it doesn't have any and not anywhere else in the file that I can see, and hasn't under previous versions when I've saved it either. I've attached an image of what pops up, but it's bascially as I said above.
