@InsaneIrish Thank you for sharing that it is also happening to you. We feel your pain.

Please help us report this Bug to Adobe using this link .svg library assets are not supported anymore in version 19.3. Hopefully, the more votes and notes it receives on that page, Adobe will make it a priority and fix it. Thank you.

Elements from the library with the .svg file format are no longer supported in version 19.3. In Illustrator the assates still works.

Hi @ChristopherVG ,

it still works with InDesign 2022.

Did some tests some weeks ago on macOS.

Hi @Laubender, Thanks for letting us know that svgs still works in InDesign 2022. It’s just a bummer that that feature that benefits lots of us was removed for later InDesign releases. I'm sure lots of us have stopped using InDesign 2022, and downgrading (I'm not sure you even can) is not an option for many of us that update to the latest InDesign.

@ChristopherVG Is Indesign still not allowing you to use library SVGs? I noticed recently that it's no longer showing them as unsupported for me, I'm not sure exactly when that happened though.

BUT... now Premiere Pro is now blocking the same SVG files from my library and showing them as unsupported in that program... ???

Hi @unique_person4993 ,

I can see the issue.

Saved an SVG file, a simple drawing, with Adobe Illustrator.

Dragged the SVG file to a new CC Library.

I was not able to place it with InDesign 2024 version 18.5.0.84.

This is also the case with InDesign 2023 version 18.5.3.129.

Well, and of course I could place the SVG file in both versions of InDesign that I mentioned above.

Also tested with InDesign 2022 version 17.4.2.77.

To my surprise with InDesign 2022 I could drag out the SVG file from the CC Library to my layout.

Thanks,

I realized recently that you can not drag and drop but if you right click you can still place linked SVGs from the CC library. You can also relink SVGs as well if the assett shows as a broken link.

It looks like more so the issue is with the ability to drag and drop vs overall function.

Hi @michaell2709042 ,

that's interesting, but in what case do you get a broken link?

Alright, maybe when you open a document from e.g. InDesign 2022 with placed and linked SVG assets in InDesign 2023 or InDesign 2024.

As far as I can see with my little SVG experiment with an Adobe Illustrator SVG file stored in a CC Library, the workaround for new SVG assets on a page is to use menu command "Select Place Copy". But this will also embed the SVG asset. Are you able to link the placed and embedded SVG to a CC Library asset? And if so how do you do this?

Also imagine what happens to tons of already placed and linked SVG assets from CC Library. A thing that I have to test again; now that I know that placing and linking SVG assets are still working with InDesign 2022.

Specifically I noticed that between Mac and PC users on my team we get broken links ONLY on SVG items in InDesign.

SVG for me in Illustrator work normally - the issue for me and the work around I suggested is actually for InDesign. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

But essentially in InDesign they look "greyed" out and non-supported but when you right click all the normal functions work accordingly (place linked, place copy and relink).

Hi Michael,

ah, yes. Thanks for the clarification. Context menu's Place linked command is working indeed.

Now that I tested again today with a document from InDesign 2022 where I placed and linked a SVG asset and opened the document in InDesign 2025 version 20.0.0.95 all is well and good. The SVG asset is still linked to my CC Library. No broken link at all.

With InDesign 2025 only dragging the SVG asset to a page will not work.

Thanks,
