1. Whether SVG images can import in InDesign?

2. Whether SVG image is suitable for Print as EPS, AI, Jpeg and Tiff?

3. We know SVG can support in Web but i want to know it is suitable for Print?

4. Some Merits and Demerits of SVG?

Correct answer John Mensinger

SVG exists as a "deployment" format to enable scalability for responsive on-screen design, and there are a lot of variables when the format is written to a file.

If you're designing for print, SVG is an inferior choice due to those variables and their potential to limit re-read integrity and editability. InDesign supports the Placing of native Illustrator formats that retain full editability, so by comparison, a workflow that reduces that editability factor is "destructive" in practice.

Hi Jayesh,

test this yourself. Place SVG files in InDesign.

Also see into my linked reply describing a bug if you are using SVG graphics saved from Adobe Illustrator:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/now-import-svg-in-indesign/m-p/10717683#M159403

Export to PDF/X-4 for example.

See how black text or black strokes and fills are doing if you convert to CMYK.

Use InDesign's Separation Preview, use Acrobat's Print Production > Output Preview after you exported to PDF/X-4.

SVG is RGB only. If you need this for e.g. offset printing consider some rework with e.g. Adobe Illustrator.

Also consider editing SVG code if you want a correct width and height.
