I have a publication that goes on for several pages like this:
Book1 Title
Author1, Author2, Author3
Book2 Title
Author4, Autorh5, Author6
I've created a paragraph style for the book entries, and a style for the authors. I now need to create a ToC that simply says, for each author, the page he is in (no mention of anything else, just the page):
Author1 Page 1
Author2 Page 1
...
When I create a ToC what I get is:
Author1, Autorh2, Author3 Page 1
Author4, Autorh5, Author6 Page 2
How do I get Id to recognize the different authors and make single entries for each of them? Can I instruct Id to use the comma&space as the point where an author name ends and a new one begins?
Thanks in advance
The table of contents feature captures all the text in the paragraph tagged with the style used and doesn't alter it. What you want is more like an index.
Below I selected each author's name then added an index entry in the Index panel (Window > Type & Tables > Index). I then generated an index. I changed the options to use a tab after each index entry and removed the Index Section Headings (A, B, C, etc.).
