I have been using a magazine template for several weeks with no issues. Today the only thing I did differently was download some new fonts, and when I try to edit the header on a page I can put the cursor in the box. but when I try to add or delete text it blanks out and seems to delete the text box and I cannot type. Any suggestions?

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for reaching out. As per your query, a particular text box is disappearing while you edit the text in it. That definitely shouldn't be happening. To help you make this right I would need a few more details:
All this will help us reproduce the issue at out and report it further if required.

I have Windows 10 Pro and InDesign 2019. I first noticed it in new files, so I went back to old files where it was originally okay and now it doesn't work there either. I can't seem to attach the video to this message. I am using the text tool and place the cursor within the box and when I hit a letter key the box appears to vanish and nothing I type shows up. It is strange because it was working fine before yesterday.

Thanks for sharing the information. I would request if you can try resetting preferences for InDesign(Set preferences in Adobe InDesign ) and let us know if that works.
Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Thank you, I will try that as I am still having the problem.

When I do this:
Do one of the following:
-
(Windows) Start InDesign, and then press ShiftCtrlAlt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
Nothing happens. Is there another way to reset?
Thanks,Dawn

Nothing happens.
But nothing is supposed to happen. It only cleans up your preference files, and this should remove the issue your are facing with.
Are you sure that the text frame actually vanishes? It could be an overset text problem. Do you see a small plus red symbol at the bottom right of the frame? can yo select it and see it in editor mode (Ctrl -Y)?

I am not at my computer right now but I do get the small red plus sign.

So, it means that you have overset text. The cause is certainly because the new font you use takes more space than the other one.

What can I do to fix it? I want to use the header and I have a > 50 pg layout.

First thing you have to do is to see how long is the overset text, then you will decide what is best: make the text frame big enough… Or reduce the font size.

Select the text frame. Choose Edit > Edit In Story Editor. This open# a separate window which shows the visible and hiding text. The overset text is marked. What do you see hiding.

Open up the panel called Paragraph Styles (menu: Windows/Styles/Paragraph Styles);
Select the frame with the header with the Black arrow;
The frame should now be selected (if not it is the Master page);
Hold down both Alt and Shift and click in the Paragrap Styles window on [Basic Paragraph].
Can you select the text in the header now? Delete the text, type something new.
Does that work?
