Text boxes disappeared in InDesign

Hi all,

In my InDesign file text boxes have disappeared on some pages (spreads) after a crash upon saving. In some cases also images have dsisappered. I check the layers and they are all visible.

The strange thing is that I can't copy a new text box to restire the text boxes to that page (or spread). It gives an error: "the demanded action makes one or more objests too small. Please check the line width". Or when I I copy and drag from another page it gives nog error but the text box disappears.

Anyone an idea what has happened and how to fix it? Is there a way to get my text back?

Thanks, Sam

PS I work in InDesign 18.1 and the text boxes are assigned to to be able to work in InCopy.

You need to determine if it's only this file that has the problem or other InDesign files.

If only this file, the crash may have resulted from file corruption that was already there. One thing you could try is to save the file as IDML (File > Save As > InDesign CS4 (or Later) [IDML]. Try to open the IDML file to see if has solved the problem.

If that doesn't work, it may be damaged so much that it can't be saved.

Have you made a recent backup of the file?

In addition, when I open the InCopy (.icma) file alle the text boxes are there but they have shfted to the top left corner. Als the dissappeared  images are present. So apparently not all is lost.

Thanks Steve, I tried to clean it through the idml file and that brought back most of the text boxes (and images). Great!!

Now I can do minor adjustments and I am set again. Thanksfor your help! (Other files are fine).
