Suddenly, every text frame that I create applies a character style to the text inside it. I have to go to the Character Styles panel and click None to remove it.
When I create a text frame I don't want any character style applied to the text inside it because the character style messes up the paragraph styles that I need to apply.
Why did this happen, and how can I stop it from happening?
You have set a default character style. You did this by clicking on a character style while no text or text frame was selected. This set the default format for all new text frames in the document. Select no character style (click an empty area of the panel or select None from the Character Style pop-up menu in the Control panel) while no text frame is active. This will set a new default format for future text frames.

hi jay,
when you open your template set default paragraph style and character style and save that template and then flow text over there.
