Text Frame Alignment

Engaged ,

I'm on InDesign 21.1 on Windows 11. When I click on a text frame, I see the alignment tools were removed from the  Control bar. Anyone know why this was done? Is there a way to reinstate it?

Hey, @rob day The screenshot shows a Windows machine and it's mentioned in the OP. So, there's no application frame to turn on or off.

I think it's really a matter of either a wider screen or picking and choosing what to display.

Nothing's been removed so you're going have to give us a bit more to go on. Do you have the frame selected or the text itself selected? Screenshots might help.

The shown tools are reduced with narrow screens. In the control panel menu you can select which tool is shown or hidden if enough space is available.

Here's a screenshot. I have a text frame selected. In the upper right  I'm only seeing alignment options for the text within the frame, but not the option to align the frame to the margins or page itself.

Click on the gear icon at the upper right of the control panel and you will get the Customize Control Panel (see screenshot). The first section of that shows choices for what can be seen in the Control Menu that are Object related. If you choose the options that you want with no document open and then quit the program they will become a program-wide preference when you reopen InDesign.

My control panel settings mirror what you have.

Hi @Chris Panny , Does it happen if you have Window>Application Frame unchecked? Also check Preferences User Interface Scaling—with a UI Sizing set to a large setting there might not be enough space to fit the items in the application frame.

Thanks everyone for your input. Bob, the alignment tools appeared after I turned off Frame fitting and Vertical Justification. Bill, thanks for pointing out the Customization panel.

I'm on Windows 11. I don't see an Application Frame. I believe this is MacOS only.
