Text frame - balanced columns

BEGGING FOR HELP! Need to get this file to client yesterday...😱

Does anyone know why one word insists on breaking to the next column?

'keep options' is turned off in it's paragraph style; there's not a single character style applied to the word AND columns are set to 'unbalanced' ... it makes no sense!

[basic Paragraph] style DOES have 'keep lines together' (At start/end of paragraph  | Start: 2 lines | End: 2 lines are the settings) Is it possibly something to do with that?! See pic for reference...

Here is the culprit…

Capture d’écran 2025-02-22 à 14.23.43.png

This forces one line of this paragraph to stay with the following paragraph. Untick it and:

As @jmlevy mentioned - those two options:

are completely unrelated - just bad UI design.

I should not have written "untick" but the problem is with "keep with next". Set it to 0 instead of 1 (lines).

Thank you so much! But... it's not ticked in the original document 😥 I don't understand why it shows in the copy and paste version but not the original?!

I think yours is more correct than mine 😉

I was writing mine before seeing @kohesion latest reply - setting it to "0" 😉

But I hope my reply is useful anyway 😉 for different situations.

Because, as per my earlier reply - with a screenshot - both options are COMPLETELY unrelated.

By @kohesion

When you copy&paste contents between documents - InDesign recognises NAMES of used / applied Styles - and uses DEFINITION of those styles from the destination document - not the original / source document.

Let's say, you've a text with ParaStyle "green" applied - and in your source document, text's color is green - but in your destination - there is ParaStyle with the same name - but color is set to red.

Because names are the same - InDesign doesn't copy definition of the style "green" - just recognises the name and uses definition from the destination document.

The same happens when you copy / place text from WORD - as long as the NAMES of the styles - ParaStyles and CharStyles are exactly the same - InDesign will use its own definitions - not what formatting is defined in the WORD document.
