The spot colour is there though, so it will still be it's own seperation. This could be solved if Photoshop could somehow pass on the colour info to inDesign.  Although, I think if I make a Spot channel that is not a PANTONE, then it works fine. I guess if we just change the name of that spot colour to something different, it should display just fine (?!)

You can recreate the channel using the Lab values and naming it the Pantone color.

Since Pantone swatches in ID etc. are purely a convenience, it's a matter of time before two things happen: "aftermarket" swatches become common and most designers learn to quickly create needed swatches.

I guess if you work with Pantone day in and day out, it's a hassle, but I don't think I've done genuine Pantone spot color work five times in the last ten years.

Won't Pantone be amused when the subscriptions fall to nothing but the big-shop core.

Looks like the capture is from a Photoshop doc with Spot Channels. I haven’t installed the latest PS, but you should be able to manually install the old Pantone .acb files in Applications⁩ ▸ ⁨Adobe Photoshop 202X⁩ ▸ ⁨Presets⁩ ▸ ⁨Color Books⁩. If the .acb files are manually installed do you still get the Spot Channel color converting to black?

Also for InDesign, you could by pass the need for .acb files with this:

Was just talking about this elsewhere.. I'm a bit confused on what happens some are saying swatches are turning to black...

I haven't had any issues... yet...

You will when the books (.acb) are no longer loaded in the resource folders.

It started with the September updates prior to MAX and will complete at the end of this year with the updates then.

You can recreate the channel using Lab values and renaming it the Pantone swatch.
