A hyperlink can be a text, phrase, or image that you can click on to jump to navigate to another document, web page, or a new section within the current document. Hyperlinks makes the navigation easy. In this post, we will share the best practices related to creating, styling, and managing hyperlinks in InDesign.

Tips & Tricks to Create, Style, and Manage Hyperlinks:-

  • To show or hide hyperlinks, select View > Extras > Show Hyperlinks or Hide Hyperlinks, respectively.
  • InDesign uses Hyperlink style by default. This is underlined blue text; you can view and change this style in the Paragraph Styles panel.
  • If a URL hyperlink isn’t working in the exported PDF, there may be a problem with the hyperlink being a Shared Destination. Uncheck Shared Hyperlink Destination in the Hyperlink panel, and then select OK.
  • Before you place a Word document in InDesign, remove the hyperlinks from the URLs in the Word document to avoid inheriting the formatting. Another option is to create a Character Style with the name Hyperlink in the InDesign document before you import. With this, the existing Hyperlink Character Style is used by default.
