TOC in Epub- why are chapter headings not highlighted blue?

I've just my InDesign CC2018 print document of my novel into an InDesign book in order to export to ePub (very laborious, taught myself). After numerous drafts have finally exported to ePub with everything looking just right - all paragraph styles etc in place.   I've created a TOC - all functioning perfectly from the TOC itself BUT once I've exported to ePUB the chapter headings are not highlighted blue like the TOC in the eBook and I can't navigate back to the TOC from a chapter heading...where have I gone wrong? Have ticked the text source anchor button for each TOC style. Is this something to do with links I haven't applied?

Would really appreciate some help, as I can't seem to find it on any forum - and it's the very last thing to fix before I validate my file - Cheers, Sarah

Sorry should have clarified:  I'm exporting to a reflowable Epub 3.0 - and the issue is not with the TOC navigating to any part of the document - just navigating BACK to the TOC from parts of the document.

Can you expand on this a bit more? Are you saying you expect that tapping a chapter heading will take you to the TOC? How are you setting this up? And, more importantly...how are you testing?

HI Bob,

Thanks so much for getting back to me.

I’ve created a separate TOC file in my InDesign Book and created a separate

TOC from the internal one - following a YouTube video by Sean Foushee -

which was excellent. I’ve selected this rather than the default so when I

export I have separate file to the internal file created in ePUB.

I didn’t think I had a problem until I opened someone else’s iBook and all

the chapter headings at the top of the body text (not TOC) were highlighted

blue and you could tap these and it would navigate back to the TOC in the

ePUB.

When I open my ePUB my TOC chapter headings are highlighted blue as you

would expect and if you tap it, I am navigated to the the correct Chapter

location - but as I look at my actual chapter, the chapter heading is not

highlighted blue and if I tap it - it does not take me back to the TOC in

the ePUB.

Does that make sense?

Sarah
