Touchpad Zoom almost unuseable on MacOS

This has been a long standing issue with InDesign over the last couple of years of releases.

Using two fingers to zoom (while holding OPTION) is buggy. It does work, but barely. Most of the time when zooming out it will zoom in instead, or maybe zoom in and out rapidly.

This function works just fine with the mouse.

Does anyone else experience this? I've been having this issue on multiple computers including work machines and Macs located at studios and agencies, not just limited to my own.

To be honest, I've used InDesign on my Mac for well over a decade and I don't think I ever used the touchpad to zoo,. I always used CTRL & + or CTRL & - to zoom

I agree with @DaveJCummings. The Command key with + an - keys is so fast, and using the touchpad just seems clumsy.

Magic Mouse has the same issue. I probably should have said Magic Mouse instead of Touch pad (but they're functionally the same)

Personally I prefer not to have to move my hand off the Mouse to zoom.

Me too. Cmd + and - work great. The Cmd Opt 0 to return to Fit Spread in Window.

For those who take a few minutes to learn them, learning keystrokes for frequently used actions is almost always the fastest and most efficient way of working.

I should clarify, Magic Mouse zoom has the exact same issue. Dodgey zooming.

I definitely know the shortcuts, but zooming on the trackpad is the same function as zooming on a mouse scroll wheel, so theoretically it should work.

It's also far more efficient for me to be able to keep one hand on the mouse/trackpad and one on the keyboard.

I use the Magic Mouse to zoom, as I would a scroll wheel. I prefer not to have to move my hand off the Mouse every time I need to zoom. Magic Mouse has the same zoom bug as the touch pad.

Hi @Rob5FE3 ,

We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. Would you mind sharing the version of InDesign & macOS along with a small video of the issue? We'll test this on our end and escalate it further if needed.

Thanks

Rishabh
