Question

Tracked changes hiding images

HI!

I am working on a file that was created by another designer many years ago. I am finding that there are hidden images that need to be deleted due to deleted track changes. Is there a way to find where there are to remove them from the file?

I am also finding that there are images hidden in over flow text, but there are no boxes that are marked with the little red over flow indicator.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Track changes will only record inline/anchored graphics, not "static" graphics.

If you Accept all Changes in Story, deleted inline graphics will disappear.

Also check to see if Conditional Text was used to hide text.

    HI,

Thank you for including the screen shots. I almost had it working! I did a test on one of the documents (it is a part of the book) and seem  to work but when I went to another section of the book, the option to accept was not an option and was all grayed out. I wasn't able to turn on the "enable tracking" on that doument in order to accept or get the InCopy window to display...So close!

    Thank you!

Have you also looked at the Assignments panel to see if any missing links are there, too? If external assignments are all complete, you could delete them from the document.

So did you take a look in the Text editor window? Ctrl-Y, or Cmnd-Y on Mac? Those images are Anchored in the text, and therfore considered a ‘character’, so if the text becomes overset (red + sign on the text frame) those anchored images are in overset as well. You have to edit the text or expand the text frame (orlink to another new frame) to see the overset text and so the anchored image. The same goes for tracked changes: if text is selected and the anchored images in that text as well, and that text is deleted with Track changes on, the deleted text is still there and so is the anchored image, but not visible. So reject the cange that deleted it and the text and its anchored image will be visible and/or selectable again.

    HI Frans,

Maybe I am not understanding. There are no indications of (red + sign on the text frame) in the actual document, just in the "links" menu, when I try to find where these OV are, I get the screen shot that I posted above. Does that help at all?

    Thank you!

Also, I unable to access the accept or reject changes or delete anything from the InCopy view. Sorry I forgot to add that to the reply.

First look in the Links panel which would show any linked graphics. You can use the Go To Link button to jump to their location.

More likely, they were pasted into the text so they won't show in the Links panel. Try using the Story Editor (Edit > Edit in Story Editor).

If they are embedded in a story, you can search for them in the Story Editor. They appear as little "anchor" icons. In Find/Change, you can search for ^a which is the metacharacter for an anchored object.

    HI!
Thank you!  When I do go to the links menu, I get these error messages

When I look at the story editor, I am unable to delete anything there as well. I do hope this helps.

Well, I don't use Tracked Changes regularly. Maybe someone who uses that feature regularly can chime in.
