Trouble with Bleed space when exporting PDF

New Here ,

Hi Everyone,

I'm having trouble when exporting a document. I have added the bleed to the document and I make sure to select bleed marks when I export the document but when I check the PDF there is a space between the bleed and my images. I have tried many times to extend the image to where the bleed guide is but every time I export it, it still shows that the image is smaller than the bleed. Please see image for reference.

There is some offset in the marks, but they indicate the bleed is extending as far as it should.

Genearally speaking, bleed marks are not terribly useful, but crop marks are essential. Crop marks should be set with an offset at least equal to the bleed allowance (the default offset is not enough).

Thanks for the quick reply!

How do I go about adding he crop marks? I always select crop marks when I am exporting the document but how do I ensure they are offset to the bleed allowance?

In the attached screen grab I've reset the offset to .1667, slightly more than the the typical bleed allowance in the US and an amount that coincidentally adds .5 inches total (including the length of the marks) to each dimension of the finished PDF which my printer wants for his imposition. Having the marks outside the bleed area guarantees they will be trimmed off, even if the cut is misaligned and uses all of one side of the bleed.

Something is wrong, but I can't quite tell what it is from the photo. Your marks are not properly offsetting (is that the same screen grab as the first time?). I suspect you may not have the document setup correctly, but I'm not sure.

Page size should be set to the finished trim size of the piece, bleed added under the Bleed and Slug section of the setup dialog, not included in the page size.

After export the PDF should look like this:

The bleed extends byond the cut indicated by the marks.

I just realized my measurements were in points not inches! That's why the bleed/crop marks not showing up!

Sorry about that but now it's turned out fine! thanks for your help and patience
