How about some screenshots/pics of print outs and system details. Without that, it's impossible to do anything but guess.

Mac 11.6 operating system, printouts show outlined type even though outline not selected. This dilemma has only recently come about and am puzzled as to the cause

Does this appear in exported PDFs or only printouts? If only printouts tell us about you printer.
Is it all documents or only some or only one? Is it all fonts or only some or only one?
Have you tried resetting preferences?

Tried resetting preferences, no change. If I export text as pdf everything is just fine.
Printer is Epson WP4020 inkjet. The puzzle continues.

This problem – type printing as outline – is becoming more bizarre. If I create a postcard document and print, everything is just fine, then to compound the issue when I print as my default A4 size, it prints OK as well. So, I create a fresh A4 document, print, back comes outline. I have reset preferences, twice now, still to no avail. I am beginning to think there must be a genie trapped inside, waiting to be released and able to grant my wish!

An addition to previous post. When I chose to print as a postcard, followed by printing as A4 I didn't mention that I chose to print at 55% blk – saving ink! – when I revert to 100% we get the dreaded outline result.

Any chance the files in question are using transparency on top of the type, using transparency to color the type, or have a blending mode applied?

No transparency being used. The problem arrived out of nowhere.
