Unable to copy/paste Share for Review comments after updating to INDD 18.5

Community Beginner ,
Aug 08, 2023 Aug 08, 2023

Since updating to 18.5 a couple days ago, I can no longer easily replace text in the documents from Share for Review comments. My coworkers place notes to replace text, and when I highlight and press copy, or right click to copy, nothing happens!! Now I have to manually type in their text, or go to my email notifications to copy the text. What gives!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your patience. We have started releasing InDesign 19.2, and we have fixed this issue since this is done in phases so, once available in your region, feel free to test and update this discussion if you need further assistance. Here is the link to an article with fixed issues in 19.2.

Thanks

Rishabh

Hi @Jacqueline_STRONGFitness ,

Thank you for getting in touch. I've conducted tests on my side, and everything appears to be functioning as expected. Would you be willing to give it a try on an alternate browser? Please keep us posted on whether this resolves the issue for you. You can also test this on a different browser.

Thanks

Rishabh

The issue isn't in the browser, it's when I'm working within indesign trying to replace text with text from comments in Share for Review. I can highlight the comment, but then pressing cmd+c or right clicking to copy doesn't do anything.

@Rishabh_Tiwari Were you able to test this in the software, instead of in the browser?

@Katherine Causland  I haven't been able to get around it yet. If it's a long block of text that I am replacing, I have to go to the email notification to copy it. The copy/paste selection just doesn't work in the Comments panel!

I also have this issue. If it's not possible to copy text in the review window, the feature is nearly useless!

I'm also having this issue since updating. Can't copy text from review comments inside of indesign.

Same happens here. Please fix this issue. Being able to copy and paste from the review comments is an essential part of our workflow.

Sorry. The M2-machine was running InDesign 18.3 not 18.5. My bad.

Hi Everyone,

I am so sorry for the delay in the response. I have tested this on my end and was able to reproduce the issue, so I have escalated this with the team and will update the discussion as soon as I hear from them.

At least they are looking into it now. Anxiously awaiting that INDD update!

I have been using the website layout link to copy and paste the comments.

@Rishabh_Tiwari Hey, it's been over 3 months since “logging a bug” and the issue is still not fixed, I don't think that's what people pay hundreds of bucks for. I now have a huge project with over 200+ comments, and Adobe suggested opening each one of them in a browser. Beyond disappointed.

Hi,

I am so sorry for the delay. I understand that this has been pending for long but  I am afraid we don't have the exact time when the fix will be released. I am keeping track of this bug, and as soon as I have the confirmation about the release version in which the fix will be available, I'll share it here.

Thanks

Rishabh

Nearly end of January 2024 – 4 months! This needs to be fixed now! Paying big bucks for software with such a basic bug that's not fixed in a timely manner?? I have a book with nearly 500 comments and text additions which I am not typing.

Yup. Still waiting. I have a 350 page book revision we are waiting on until this gets fixed because the time overhead isn't worth it.
