Unable to delete a story. InDesign crashes.

I had a document with around 100 pages. Page 1 was the TOC which had been generated from defined styles.

I wanted to create a blank file, with style etc intact, so saved a copy, opened the copy and deleted all the pages except the TOC. When I tried to delete the story containing the TOC, InDesign crashed. Repeatedly.

So I manually went through and started to delete the text in the story, line by line, saving as and overwriting after each successful deletion.

Finally I got to the last letter of the story. A capital F.

I can't delete it, without crashing InDesign. I can change the colour, font, size etc, but if I try to delete using the text tool or the pointer tool, InDesign crashes.

I've removed all styles, all colours etc, just to rule out some kind of interaction glitch. No dice.

UPloading the document, so you guys can experiment. 🙂

Andy

Yeah, I converted to idml and it was fine, but why is it happening?

Files get corrupted over time. If you find such issues that can't be explained it is a good idea to either "save as" the file or export it to IDML.

Did you try exporting the document out to IDML? You could also import style from one document to another.
