Hi!
I updated my InDesign this morning and am now stuck with unsatisfactory trackpad sensitivity. I am using a Windows Laptop.
Before the update, I was able to move around the pasteboard using two fingers on my trackpad. It was very smooth. I could move up, down, right and left and am still able to do so in other programs, outside of the Creative Cloud too. But since the update, the sensitivity of the trackpad in InDesign is very low. Swiping over the trackpad with two fingers results in either no movement or very occasional choppy moves.
I like to look at my documents quite far zoomed in and having the option to move around the page with the trackpad instead of the scroll bars is an essential part of my workflow. Did any setting change in the new version that could have caused this? I checked my preferences but could not find any solution.

Does 2023 still work okay? If so, stick to that and report the issue as a bug but you'll need to provide full details:

Hi @paulaacko,
We are sorry to hear you are unable to use the trackpad in InDesign's latest version. In addition to what our expert has said, we would like to know a few more details so that we can report it to the product team or try reproducing the issue at our end.
We will try our best to investigate further.
Thanks,
Harshika

Hi, thanks for the reply!
As mentioned in my original post, I updated InDesign this morning (11. October), and worked on the previous version, for example, all day yesterday, without any issues. As all other programs work fine, I am pretty confident that the issue was caused by the update.
I am not using an external monitor, mouse or keyboard.
My operating system is Windows 11, running on a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1.
The issue itself is not groundbreaking. Scrolling can still be done using the bars. I have tried changing the Tool Tip options from fast to normal, as was suggested by someone in a previous support thread, but this did not solve the problem either.
Thank you!

Hi @linat62068888,
Thank you for reporting the issue. Would you mind sharing your operating system details so we can investigate further?
Could you please also try switching to a new user profile and see if the issue persists on the new profile? Please also check on other Adobe applications as well.
Let us know if that helps.
Thanks,
Harshika

Thank you for sharing the video, @paulaacko. It really helped. We would request to please switch to a new user profile and see if the issue persists on the new profile.
Additionally, could you please test this on other Adobe applications, such as Illustrator or Photoshop, to see if the problem is occurring there as well?
We will continue to investigate further.
Thanks,
Harshika

Hi! Same issue here, with a HP Elitebook 840 G8 laptop, the touchpad is virtually unusable.
Strangely, pinch-to-zoom results in (rather) smooth left-right scrolling, at least smoother than just moving two fingers.

I am having the exact same issue - the 'old' version that I was using yesterday is perfect, the new version (19.0) has virtually zero trackpad functionality. It moves down about 1cm and stops, then nothing; up is the same, left and right is 'sticky' and not smooth. If I open the old version that I still have installed, it's smooth and perfect.

I hope this can help those having scroll issues in this new release of InDesign. What we found was that a Microsoft wierless mouse would not scroll but a Logitech wireless mouse or a Dell wireless mouse would scroll fine. Maybe there is a driver issue with Micrsoft mice???

I am having the same issues and the mouse worked fine before the updated. Me thinks with the new update they did not account for those of use with special mice. 😞 Maybe there is a driver updated on the Microsoft side, but when I updated InDesign it told me that my mouse was not compatible which makes me think it is back in Adobe's court 😞

Hi -- has this trackpad scroll-responsiveness/smoothness issue been resolved yet? I have the same issue: seamless cursor using a single finger on the trackpad; but InDesign often does not respond (or responds inconsistently) when I switch to pan using two fingers. However, it strangely is responsive when I use two fingers directly over the scrollbar. It really disrupts my workflow as a power-user.
Current InDesign version: 19.0.1
PC specs:
Device name LAPTOP-GSABN9EV
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-N305 1.80 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.68 GB usable)
Device ID C59BE3C9-56DD-43C3-A7DE-9D0B119215CE
Product ID 00356-07254-92931-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch Pen and touch support with 10 touch points
Windows specs:
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 22H2
Installed on 10/24/2023
OS build 22621.2715
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22677.1000.0
Very irritating. Should I switch to an older version like 18 or something?
Happy to share a screen recording if that would help, but it seems like the issue is consistent with others' experiences.

Oh thank you for pointing out that the movement is smooth when scrolling over the scrollbar! I had not noticed that before. This would probably explain why some of the movements I was trying to make turned out choppy - I started to scroll while hovering over the scrollbar and then moved away from it. The general issue has not yet been resolved from what I can tell. While your discovery is still not an optimal solution, it did help me to increase my work speed slightly, so thank you for commenting again!

Anyone else having issues with this on the new update? Literally wasted an hour trying to find a work around. This plus other actions are so laggy. So painful.

Is this related to XD, or as your title suggests, is this for InDesign? If the latter, you should post your question here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/ct-p/ct-indesign?page=1&sort=latest_replies&lang=all&tabid=a...

Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for sharing the info. It looks like you're experiencing the similar issue mentioned here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/unable-to-move-around-the-pasteboard-using-two-f....
If so, then I would like to inform you that this is a known bug, and the team is working on it.
Thanks,

I'm having the same issue, but in InCopy. I work on a laptop and only use the trackpad (no external mouse). Whereas the movements used to be too sensitive, now they're barely responsive.
Using Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2.
The only other Adobe product I use is Adobe Reader, and there are no issues with that.

I upgraded to InDesign 19.0 this morning and my old-fashined plug-in mouse's wheel scrolling is lagging and basically unusable. The mouse scrolling works fine in other programs. Scrolling appears to be working fine in Photoshop and Illustrator (which I upgraded both to 2024 this morning).
