Unable to Place pdf in Indesign

I have tried to place a pdf into my InDesign page, but it says, "Cannot crop to trim box. Either the trim box is not defined, or is empty. It will let me place a jpeg into the box, but not my pdf. Any suggestions?

    In Place dialog, check "Show Import Options":

    and in second dialog choose something different then your problematic (non-existent) trim box, eg "Media" or "Art":
