Unable to read PDF files exported by InDesign on Safari

Hi,

A few years ago I use as the main tool for all my work, Indesign for its stability and quality. At the time I managed to export PDF documents on my website. Today for the diffusion of all my courses on my website I realize that all my PDF doc. can still be read ... only with a Google Chrome browser or IE browser. I have to warn my audience that only Chrome and IE are able to display my PDFs.

I am working on Apple materials (Laptop, Imac, Ipad, Iphone) with Safari browser. You see my big big problem.

No one has ever been able to give me a minimum of answers, even to point me to some semblance of solutions.

Well, well, well... maybe now ?

Jacques

Hi Jacques,

I'm on Windows 10 and had no chance to see anything from the PDF when I copy your link to my browser.

Tested with Firefox and Edge browsers.

My Firefox browser's PDF viewer is well aware of an issue with the PDF.

It says 0 from 0 pages. And there is the statement: "This PDF document probably cannot be shown correctly."

The PDF Rob Day linked to is no problem at all with both browsers.

So everything is OK with the PDF itself. Something's wrong with your download link.

this link works good with Chrome. I think it's a html or php code problem ? no?

Hi Zaczeksob,

maybe your problem is that the browser software changed?

Means: Different browsers are using different PDF Viewers and do not rely on Adobe Reader browser integration anymore.

Times are changing.

What you can do:

Export PDFs with a minimum feature set.

1. No spot colors.

2. All transparency flattened.

3. No overprinting elements, all overprinting done with Simulate Overprinting.

4. All elements in sRGB.

FWIW:

What are your requirements for interactivity?
None? You are good to go.

Can you post a link to one of the problem PDFs? Are you running the latest Safari 13.03, which doesn't require a plugin for PDFs?

I think the problem is in the PHP/HTML page code and not the PDF.

If I download the table PDF and upload it to a folder on my server it displays in all of my OSX browsers:

What exactly seems to be the problem? If this is for an interactive PDF, they are a crapshoot on anything other than Acrobat or Reader on a desktop.

Thank you all for kind answers.

I am working on Macbook on iMac. I publish all doc on my Joomla website with modules and plugins incorpored ("jdownload").

I know some of my online students worked with Apple computer and they have the same blank screen as I. People who work with Windows system don't have any problem.

The type of PDF export is "to print" and the result is the normal downloading of the URL followed with a beautiful grey blank page. I have the same on my iphone cellular : a grey page.

I try to install Firefox, doesn't work.   Opera? Doesn't work. I tried another but I don't remember the browser.

I tried months ago on Internet Explorer (Windows OS), and it worked well.

For local Reader, It's the Apple viewer : and on web only the browser Safari

The first using of Safari browser, years ago, worked very well in the same conditions. After 1st, 2nd  updates of safari browser, it was finished with all PDF doc.  I hope that mistake is mine and I will find where but if it's other problem
