Undo command not working - InDesign 2025

Currently having an issue with my undo/history function. I seem to only be able to go back 2 or 3 commands before the entire history disappears. pls help!

Thanks again for continuing to share your updates, and I’m sorry the issue is still occurring. I wanted to share the latest guidance from the product team regarding the Undo/History behavior in Adobe InDesign.

The team is actively investigating this issue, and the requested logs are extremely important in helping identify the root cause. If you’re experiencing this behavior, please share the requested logs and details at sharewithID@adobe.com, via DM to me, or directly on the thread so the team can analyze the issue further.

In the meantime, the following workarounds may help:

Reverting to InDesign 21.1.0 appears to resolve the issue for affected users.
Restarting InDesign or the system may temporarily restore Undo functionality.
Please also try going to InDesign Preferences, disabling the Generative AI options, restarting InDesign, and checking whether the Undo/History behavior improves.

We really appreciate everyone’s patience, testing, and help with the investigation. I’ll continue to keep this thread updated as soon as we have further information from the product team.

I am have been having this same issue but discovered it is only when I have google drive desktop app on (the one that goes in your top bar). If I quit that my InDesign works fine.

InDesign 21.4.1 on a Mac running Tahoe 26.6.2. I have the same issue.

No Undo or Redo available.

UPDATE:
I deleted the preferences and had to set everything up again. Undo and Redo is back, but it’s super annoying, because I had to spend unnecessary time setting up all the preferences again. As it is I trash my preferences at least once a month when I’m teaching an InDesign class.

UPDATE: An hour later and no more Undo and Redo. Greyed out! Come on Adobe!!!!! 😬

Hey, Adobe Team, are you having trouble thinking?
You're normal, making error after error every day by day, and you say you're working on it. The lack of "undo" is a known problem...so super, and you're working on it. It makes us wriily “calms down”

And today, in addition to these, I'm missing "save as..." and "Save."

I am experiencing this bug, really disruptive to my workflow. It’s happened twice in the last 4 hours.

I’m on a Mac Studio M1 Max on MacOS Tahoe 26.6.2, Indesign 21.5.1

Currently on 21.5.1, macOS is Tahoe 26.5.2, and very much frustrated with this issue.

Wow. This is STILL a known bug after more than a year + (?!) I’m running InDesign 24.4.1 (obvs) on a Mac mini running Tahoe 26.5.1. I’ve already done the reset prefs thing — which fixes things for a minute but the issue always returns. C’mon team – let's get her done, huh?!

We haven't been able to reproduce the behavior internally, so it would be really helpful if you could share the requested logs outlined here:

If possible, please also share a short screen recording showing the Undo history disappearing so we can better understand the behavior.

I just updated to 21.5.1 expecting to fix the issue, but here I am. I am still unable to undo commands. My cursor is stuck on the move arrow. Can you please fix this ASAP? Thanks

Hi @yojp,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue as well. Could you please confirm your exact InDesign version and operating system?

In the meantime, please try resetting your InDesign preferences using the steps at the bottom of the article here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html, then restart InDesign (or your computer) and check whether the Undo functionality is restored. If you're on macOS, please also let us know whether you're able to test with InDesign 21.1.0, as reverting to that version has helped some users while the product team continues to investigate this issue. Ref:

If the issue persists, please share the requested diagnostic information along with a short screen recording showing the Undo history disappearing, as requested by the product team. These details will help the team investigate the issue further and identify the root cause.

As a temporary workaround, reverting to v21.1.0 or restarting InDesign/macOS may temporarily restore the Undo functionality.

Still experiencing this in INDD 21.3 (and the previous 3 versions). Is this ever going to get addressed? It’s a nightmare. Feel like Adobe is just giving up on human creators and pivoting towards an all AI focus. I’m on a Mac mini running latest Tahoe.
