updating links to new drive letters

This my problem: Applications div wants to change our server. Up to now (since 1998) we had two drive letters (Y and Z) given to store files and pictures.

Now they want me to change this to P and S. I looked already in the forum, but since scripting isn't my thing, a little help could do the trick.

The linked files have all kinds of names and extensions. The only sure thing is that the link points either to the Z(drive) or the Y(drive).

Any suggestions for this problem?

We use CS4 on windows.

Hi Gert,

  • Since you are on CS4 you can use Relink to Folder feature (in the Links pane).
  • You can use this script: http://kasyan.ho.com.ua/relink.html.
  • You can also try the attached script. BTW, it can be easily remade to run automatically whenever you open a document, so that it will repair all links without your interference (you'll need to get APID ToolAssistant plug-in for this — $25).

Hi, Kasyan,

I'll try this tomorrow. We already use The apid plugin for other reasons, so if it's the same plug-in for all then no problem.

Thks for the help. I'll let you know asap if it's working or not.

Hi kasyan,

Best wishes for 2010!

The script works fine for all docs which have links to the same drive. Docs with links to two different drives (old one Y to new S) and (old one Z to new P) only get relinked to one drive. The main doc is on the old Z drive, the linked scans on the old Y drive. Looking at it with the toolkit I get the impression that the relink from the Y to the S isn't working. The scripts used are the "Update path names after server change" and update pathnames after drive letter change.jsx.
