Question

Use and install a different dictionary

When comparing the results of a spelling job in Indesign I found that the same task produced in Word Office was of better quality. MWord is more up to date and yields fewer words that ID rates as bad.

Is it possible to use another dictionary in ID and if so what kind of file/extension, etc.?

ID v.19/Mac/Ventura

Thanks

There is an older article from creativepro that shows step by step how Hunspell dictionaries can be added. The link is here: https://creativepro.com/adding-hunspell-dictionaries-indesign/

It's a lot of steps though. It'd be great in future editions if the developers could make this easier.

If the answer wasn't in my post, perhaps it might be on my blog at colecandoo!

Thanks for both of you.

I cannot understand why Word's dictionary seems superior to ID's Hunspell.
But have not seen information about it.

That is why I choose Duden for German as it is also installed and way superior to Hundpell which is a crap.

Hi @palala fog , InDesign's spell check uses the language applied to the text for the check. Language is a character property, so you can have multiple languages applied to a document's text. Have checked the Character or Paragraph panels to make sure the same language is applied to all of the texts?
