Using Box Drive Box Sync, Indesign Links show as modified, while not modified

Our Studio has been using Indesign and linking files from Box Drive or Box Sync relatively successfully for a few years. We are a mostly on Macs and recently started upgrading to MacBook Pros with the Apple Silicone M1 chips.

Box has had issues, of course, but we're down to only one issue, now, that is primarily with InDesign and linking to layered and multi-page files. All other files link fine.

Our workflow requires us to import multi-page PDFs or Illustrator files with multiple artboards. These files are continually shown as modified even though they hadn't been. Box Sync shows them as perpetually syncing, too, until we close out of InDesign.

Our workaround has been to use the Adobe Cloud for those files, but AC is still clunky and a good way to confuse a design department when a library hasn't been shared.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Does Box have a "smart sync" feature; one where only a reference to the file is shown locally and it's downloaded on demand? If so, turn it off...otherwise, try it locally and on another cloud storage service such as Dropbox or Onedrive. If they work there, contact Box.

That's a great sugestion.

It does do a "smart sync" which has worked fairly well until the updates. Setting the directory to "Make Available Offline" doesn't fix the problem, though, maybe because the files still phone home and get tagged during the sync ... I think. InDesign still see's them as "modified" and won't change when updated in the panel.

Adobe Cloud works, just fine, but other Cloud drives add other issues.

I'm all over Box like a spider monkey about this issue. They don't have quite the same commnity as Adobe, I'm finding.

Thank you,

Andy

I think I should emphasize that this only happens on files with multi page PDFs or multiple artboards. This tells me it's not exclusively a Box issue.

I'm seeing the exact same behaviour with links which appear on more than one page of my InDesign file. Again, only with files stored in Box and only on an M1 Mac. I have edited the same document stored in the same Box location with the same version of Box Drive on an Intel Mac with zero issues.

The issues go away if I copy my files and edit them locally on the M1 Mac.

Fingers crossed... a laborious BoxDrive update (Version 2.23.426) may have resolved this issue (though created other, less painful issues).
