Using place command -placing one multiple page InDesign doc into a blank InDesign doc

I have a client I did a book for at 8.5 x 11 " now the client informs me that they need the book at 6x9" Is there a way to place the original doc inside a new doc>

I agree with all of the responses to your question. Adjust layout would probably give you the best results. That being said, to answer your question, yes you could create a new document at 6 x 9 and place your 8 1/2 x 11 InDesign document into that 6 x 9 document. You'll end up having to crop the width of your pages though and it would depend on how much room you have in the original document that would determine if it could work or not. Just choose File > Place and place the ID doc into the 6 x

What version of InDesign? If you're using the newest (InDesign CC 2019.0.1), you would be better off to try the new File > Adjust Layout feature. Read about it here:

You might want to save a copy of the book and resize the copy rather than place it in a new document. Have you tried this?
