Vcard QR Code not recognized

Explorer ,
May 02, 2025 May 02, 2025

I created a QR code in InDesign for a client using the Business Card template and slapped it on the project and sent a proof. I was then told that the iPhone couldn't recognize it and on Android it "looked all weird". I scanned it myself from the screen and got the same results.

Has this InDesign feature become obsolete or something? My phones have the latest software updates so i don't see why it can't recognize a simple vcard.... this technology has been around for over a decade.

What version of InDesign are you running? As I recall, a recent version of InDesign improved the function of QR code generation.

20.3.1

I didn't notice any improvements. I Understand Adobe keeps pushing us to use Adobe Express to generate QR codes but all you can do is make a link to a website code. Lame.

Hello @Stab2k,

I tried replicating this behavior on my end, but could not. Could you share a link to a sample file with a QR object in it, after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so I can check it with the team?

Note: While sharing the file, kindly make the link public, and enable the option to Save a Copy/Download under Link Settings (if available)

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @bahia37214578qx8l,

Thanks for reaching out. I was able to scan the QR Code shared in the screenshot without any problems. Could you confirm the version of the iOS installed on your device, so I can try and replicate this on my end? Also, try using a different device and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, FWIW I was able to scan the QR code in the screenshot on my Android phone with no trouble.

I was able to scan this without issue on my iPhone. I also decoded the code and it's a properly-formatted version 3.0 vCard with nothing of note that would cause issues.
